After the announcement of the liquidation of Fret SNCF by the Minister of Transport and the SNCF group, four unions (CGT, UNSA, Solidaires Sud Rail and CFDT) announced a day of strike for Thursday, November 21.

“Strike on November 21: our ultimatum!” In a leaflet published on their network, all the railway federations have decided on a day of mobilization in the face of the implementation of the 2018 railway reform, which “confirmed the liquidation of Fret SNCF”they testify. According to the union organizations, this mobilization was decided after their demands were not taken into account by the Minister of Transport, François Durovray, and by the SNCF group. “While the employers and those in power are banking on our resignation, we are going to show our determination and our solidarity”they announced.

Two new companies to replace Fret SNCF

This decision follows the announcement, made this Monday, November 4, of the replacement of the railway subsidiary by two separate companies called Hexafret and Technis by SNCF. A replacement which marks the end of Fret SNCF on January 1, 2025. This is the second stage of its discontinuity plan negotiated by the French government with the European Commission.

For the president of Rail Logistics Europe, the holding company bringing together all SNCF freight activities, Frédéric Delorme, this disappearance “is very hard for railway workers” but still believes that the conditions are met “to develop economically”he testified in La Tribune.
