how Elon Musk will shake up the daily lives of sailors during their world tour

Guest this Tuesday from Super Moscato Show on RMC, Yannick Bestaven described the change brought to his daily browser by Starlink. The satellite communications system launched by Elon Musk will allow the Vendée Globe title holder to stay connected to his loved ones throughout his sailing trip around the world.

Winner of the last Vendée Globe in 2021, Yannick Bestaven will launch the defense of his title on Sunday. Before the big departure of the world tour from Les Sables-d'Olonne, the 51-year-old skipper spoke this Tuesday on RMC in the show Super Moscato Show. The opportunity for him to describe how a technological development will change his daily life at sea. Launched by Vincent Moscato on the fact of being equipped with Starlink, the communication tool launched by Elon Musk which allows an internet connection all around the globe, the 51-year-old sailor was very enthusiastic.

“Exactly, I have it,” Yannick Bestaven quickly confirmed during his appearance on RMC. And he slips amusedly: “Just imagine, I'll be able to listen to the Moscato Show throughout the Vendée Globe.”

“Four years ago I had nearly 15,000 euros worth of communications”

“It’s madness, it’s madness. We have 5G on board everywhere on the planet thanks to Mr. Musk,” continued the Vendée Globe title holder at the microphone of the Super Moscato Show on RMC. “And then on top of that the communication costs… I think that three years ago I had nearly 15,000 euros worth of communications. And now it costs 300 euros per month with unlimited calls.”

And the skipper of the boat Maître Coq V clarified about the Starlink revolution during the Vendée Globe: “It's impressive! All communications on the planet will be mastered by Mr. Musk with his satellites.”

Bestaven more connected than ever for its “last Vendée Globe”

Title holder but still not labeled as favorite for the event, Yannick Bestaven is not bothered by this status and this lack of recognition.

“That's good, you shouldn't be the favorite, especially in races like this where there are a lot of unforeseen events,” continued the skipper from Saint-Nazaire. Before concluding on his ambitions for the legendary event: “I don't want to worry about that (the double). It's my last Vendée Globe I think.” A final solo adventure around the world that Yannick Bestaven will experience without completely cutting off from his loved ones thanks to Starlink and Elon Musk.
