The 49th anniversary of the Green March…an immortal epic on the path to achieving territorial unity

On Wednesday, November 6, the Moroccan people as a whole, in an atmosphere of overflowing enthusiasm, continuous mobilization, and continued vigilance around the issue of territorial integrity, celebrate the 49th anniversary of the victorious Green March. The shining epic in the path of the national struggle to complete independence and achieve the territorial integrity of the Kingdom.

This unique event, created by the genius of His Majesty the late Hassan II to liberate the southern regions from Spanish colonialism, embodies the most wonderful images of the cohesion between the Alaouite throne and the Moroccan people. On November 6, 1975, masses of volunteers from all groups and segments of the Moroccan people, and from all parts of the country, set out with order and regularity towards the Sahrawi regions to liberate them, with the strength of faith and in a unique, civilized and peaceful manner.

Commemorating this major historical station, full of lessons and lessons, and full of meanings and values, constitutes an occasion to conjure glories and mobilize determination to elevate the edifices of modern Morocco, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

In the face of the firm determination of the large crowds armed with the Holy Qur’an and the national flag, the occupation authorities found no way but to submit to the will of the king and the people to complete the unity of the homeland and announce the end of the occupation of the southern regions. Thus, this event became a historical epic that attracted the attention of the world and left widespread repercussions, with what it reflected. From the determination, will and faith of Moroccans and their complete and comprehensive mobilization in order to recover the usurped lands.

This epic, which embodied the genius of the unified king, who was able, in a uniquely civilized and peaceful manner stemming from the strength of belief in the truth and justice of the national cause in order to recover the southern regions, could only be crowned with the victory of the Moroccans who raised the flag of the homeland, flying in the sky of Laayoune on February 28, 1976, as a sign. With the end of the period of occupation and foreign presence throughout the Moroccan Sahara, followed by the recovery of the Oued Eddahab region on August 14, 1979.

Today, this saga continues to thwart the maneuvers of the opponents of the Kingdom’s territorial integrity, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, as Morocco stands steadfast in defending its legitimate rights, strengthening, thanks to the consensus of all its living forces, its steadfastness in preserving its territorial integrity, and affirming to the entire world its will. His strong and continuous mobilization in defense of the Moroccanity of his Sahara, and his adherence to his serious initiative to end the long-standing artificial regional conflict as a result of the intransigence and obstinacy of the opponents of the territorial integrity and those opposed to Morocco’s rights over its reclaimed lands.

One of the fruits of the continuous development dynamism in the southern regions of the Kingdom is that the open workshops are among the major achievements, which made these parts of the country record the lowest rates of poverty and levels of social disparities, the best results in the field of social achievements, health services and housing, the highest growth rates of the gross domestic product, and the best market performance. employment, which steadily enhances its economic attractiveness.

Thanks to this dynamism, the southern regions also include all the requirements necessary to achieve expanded regionalization, which His Majesty the King wants to be a qualitative leap in the path of local democracy with the horizon of making these regions a model of advanced regionalization, in a way that enhances their democratic management of their local affairs, and increases their radiance as a national economic pole. A link between the Kingdom and its African depth.
