The state of natural disaster recognized for some 400 municipalities affected by the floods of mid-October

After the major floods which hit France on October 17 and 18, the state of natural disaster is officially recognized for nearly 400 municipalities, according to a decree published in the Official Journal on Tuesday, November 5. They are located in ten departments of the Centre-East, South-East and Ile-de-France: Alpes-Maritimes, Ardèche, Corrèze, Eure-et-Loire, Loire, Haute-Loire, Loire-Atlantique, Lozère, Rhône, Yvelines and Essonne.

The cost of the damage caused by the floods of October 17 and 18 estimated between 350 and 420 million euros, by the public reinsurer Caisse centrale de réassurance (CCR). “We have never experienced a disaster of this magnitude”, reacts the president of the departmental council”Olivier Amrane, the president of the Ardèche departmental council, reacted on October 18. In Mayres, in Ardèche, a cumulative amount of 686 mm of rain was recorded in forty-eight hours. In Vialas, in Lozère, an accumulation of 711 mm was noted.
