2024 TCS New York City Marathon Race Day

The 2024 TCS New York City Marathon saw more than 55,000 runners journey through the five boroughs of NYC, making it the largest marathon of all time. They were cheered on by over 2 million spectators and supported by 10,000 volunteers on an ideal running day.

This year’s champions are Daniel Romanchuk (1:36:31) and Susannah Scaroni (1:48:05), both of the United States, in the wheelchair divisions, and Abdi Nageeye of the Netherlands (2:07:39) and Sheila Chepkirui of Kenya (2:24:35) in the open divisions. The top non-binary finisher was Sofia Camacho Ferral of New York City, who finished in 2:31:29.

The TCS New York City Marathon is a great equalizer, one of the most inclusive and accessible sporting events in the world, with athletes from professionals to everyday runners traversing the same course on the same day.

Five-time Olympic medalist and New Balance athlete Gabby Thomas served as the Grand Marshal of the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon and took part in race-week events including the Opening Ceremony and the NYRR Night of Champions gala. Yesterday Thomas greeted runners at the start and cheered as they crossed the iconic finish line.

Celebrity runners this year included Randall Park, Jacob Soboroff, Katherine Morikawa, and others.

The race finish line remained open until 10:00 p.m. with the final finishers cheered on by loved ones and NYRR staff and volunteers. View the full results of the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon here.

New this year, NYRR Team for Climate fielded a group of about 250 athletes running in honor of sustainability, with a sustainable start tent powered by solar generators, with sustainable catering and reusable singlets with climate stripes to raise awareness about climate change.

Team for Kids, NYRR’s premier fundraising charity that has raised more than $110 million for NYRR youth programs since its inception in 2002, is projected to raise another $8 million this year.

Youth runners kicked off race week at the Rising NYRR Kids Kickoff on October 27. NYC schoolchildren from Rising New York Road Runners took part in the TCS Run with Champions during the week.

Runners and their families and friends celebrated post-race at the Victory Lap: The Official TCS New York City Marathon After-Party. Today, many returned to the finish area for Marathon Monday at the TCS New York City Marathon Pavilion Presented by Mastercard to celebrate their accomplishment, jumpstart recovery, shop, get their medals engraved, and relive the memories.

The TCS New York City Marathon is the BEST DAY in New York City, bringing together people from all backgrounds and communities through the transformative power of running. The race began in 1970 as four-plus loops of Central Park, and in 1976 it became a five-borough event that set the blueprint for big-city marathons around the world. The course takes runners over the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge from Staten Island to Brooklyn, then through Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, and back into Manhattan to finish in Central Park. The Virtual TCS New York City Marathon saw thousands of runners around the world complete their 26.2 miles from October 26 through November 3.
