FFBoxe turns to World Boxing: a crucial decision for the Olympic future of French boxing

The French Boxing Federation (FFBoxe) disaffiliates from the IBA to join World Boxing: a strategic decision for the Olympic and institutional future of French boxing.

Pantin, October 31, 2024 – The steering committee of the French Boxing Federation (FFBoxe) has taken a major decision for the future of the discipline by voting to disaffiliation from the International Boxing Association (IBA) in order to join World Boxing.

This decision, motivated by the desire to guarantee French boxing its place in the Olympic Games and to strengthen the stability of the clubs, marks a turning point for FFBoxe, which is moving forward with determination on this path.

The initiative is based on a letter from David Lappartient, president of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF), recalling that, following recent decisions by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), boxing is no longer recognized as an Olympic sport for the Los Angeles 2028 Games. Separately, the IOC officially withdrew its recognition of the IBA due to serious governance issues. Under IOC guidelines, national federations that maintain their affiliation with the IBA will no longer be recognized by their respective national Olympic committees, compromising their ability to represent their discipline in the Olympic framework.

Faced with these challenges, the president of the CNOSF asked the FFBoxe to clarify its position on two key points: its maintenance within the IBA and a possible affiliation with another world federation.

In a spirit of transparency and democracy, this decision will be subject to validation by the general assembly on December 14. Representatives of regional committees as well as clubs will have the opportunity to express their views, thus demonstrating the participatory governance of FFBoxe and its commitment to taking into account all stakeholders in French boxing.

By joining World Boxing, FFBoxe wishes to guarantee an Olympic future for its athletes, ensure lasting stability for clubs and place the discipline in a dynamic of development and success in .
