Since the announcement of the publication of “The Idea of Autonomous Casamance – Possibilities and Moral Debts of the Colonial Situation in Senegal” by French writer Séverine Awenengo Dalberto, researcher at the National Center for Scientific Research, protests have been strong in Senegal.
The government, through its Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, rejects the promotion and marketing of this book throughout the national territory.
At a press conference this Monday, as a prelude to the 32nd edition of the International Day of the African Writer on November 7 in Dakar, the writer members of the AES reacted.
For Dr Djibril Falémé Diallo, distinguished writer, every writer has the absolute freedom to write without his thoughts, but while respecting societal realities. Any work that has the objective of creating tension deserves to be reviewed before its popularization. According to Professor Diallo, the authority is within its rights to monitor any publication of a work which arouses controversy.
In this wake, Colonel Dr Momar Guèye believes that freedom of literary expression is within the reach of all writers, while emphasizing respect for ethics and deontology which are part of the foundations of an author in his writings.
Everything suggests, based on the reactions of all, that Senegalese writers are not in favor of the publication of this work which could undermine national integrity.
