Caught in the act of fake news. The mayor of Poitiers, Léonore Moncond'huy, asks Bruno Retailleau to “restore the truth” on the shooting which cost the life of a teenager in the city, after the Minister of the Interior wrongly referred to a brawl involving hundreds of people.
“I hope that the minister will correct the comments he made, that he will reestablish the truth. We owe it in particular to the young person’s family”launched the elected environmentalist this Monday, November 4, 2024 on France Blue Poitoudenouncing remarks which “contribute to fueling confusion between the youth of the neighborhoods as a whole and the traffickers as a whole”.
The deceased teenager “had nothing to do with drug trafficking”
Thursday evening, while a Halloween evening organized by an association brought together many young people in the Couronneries district, gunshots in front of a kebab restaurant left five people injured, all minors. One of them, aged 15 and hit in the head, did not survive.
Commenting on the facts Friday morning on BFMTV/RMCthe Minister of the Interior declared that after the shooting, “a brawl between rival gangs” had opposed “several hundred people”castigating the « narcoracailles » and evoking a risk of « mexicanisation » of the country. According to the police and the prosecution, however, brief scuffles only involved a few dozen people among the crowd present near the crime scene.
The death of a teenager is “quite tragic in itself” so as not to “spread false information”continued the mayor of Poitiers, adding that the victim “had absolutely nothing to do with drug trafficking”.
The minister “made a mistake” according to the mayor
According to his family, who spoke via a lawyer, the minor “had no delinquency problems”. Il “told his mother that he was going to buy a sandwich before going home. And he got shot.”declared Sunday to theAFP Me Yasmina Djoudi. For Léonore Moncond'huy, Bruno Retailleau “committed a mistake”in “using the image of a neighborhood and the image of (Poitiers) in the service of an alarmist, populist discourse”.
A suspect who, according to the prosecution, “would have engaged in the sale of narcotics” in the neighborhood “during the previous days”is wanted by investigators. According to information from Parisianthis man was under judicial supervision for a case of possession of weapons investigated in Marseille.
