Federal politics, film and the American elections. These are the main topics tonight in ‘Gert’s table’. Gert Verhulst will receive Conner Rousseau, Matteo Simoni and Hans Klis, among others.
It appears that there will be no federal government for the time being with the parties N-VA, CD&V, Vooruit, Les Engagés and MR. Vooruit chairman Conner Rousseau was the first to leave the ultimate meeting this morning, after which formateur Bart De Wever offered his resignation to the king. He will explain why Rousseau did not want to negotiate further and whether he now chooses the federal opposition at the table.
Wednesday is also movie day. And another Flemish film appears in theaters: Milano. Matteo Simoni plays Alain, a single father of a deaf boy of eleven, who wants to see his biological mother again. It is an intense film, set in Ghent, by director Christina Vandekerckhove. She previously made the documentary Rabot, and will join Verhulst together with Simoni as a guest.
Tomorrow is also D-day in the United States. There they elect a new president. The Dutch journalist Hans Klis wrote the book Help the President has gone crazy. Although this is not just about presidential candidate Donald Trump. Several of his predecessors were narcissists, believed in conspiracy theories or struggled with sex addiction. Who was the craziest, who was the most normal? And who does Klis think will make it this week?
The table jumpers of the day are presenter and actress Tine Embrechts, showbiz journalist Desna Lespinoy and journalist Joël De Ceulaer. (eadp)
