Roundtable discussion on tenders for infrastructure projects | House of Representatives of the States General

7 november 2024

The Committee for Infrastructure and Water Management is organizing a round table discussion about infrastructure tenders on Thursday, November 7 between 1:30 PM and 4:30 PM. The aim of the conversation is to hear from different perspectives why infrastructure projects are often delayed or not even carried out at all, and what can be done when preparing a tender to prevent this.

The conversation will take place in the Groen van Prinstererzaal. You can watch or listen live via this website. Or watch via the app and website Debat Direct.

Tenders in the infrastructure sector

Procurement of infrastructure works is a complex matter with often major risks for both contractors and clients (including Rijkswaterstaat). In January 2024, Rijkswaterstaat canceled the tender for the Van Brienenoord Bridge. As a result, an evaluation has been drawn up with the aim of learning from what went wrong in the tender and how this can be prevented. This evaluation, and the size of projects and the risk distribution between contractors and the government, is reason for the standing committee for Infrastructure and Water Management to organize this round table discussion. The committee would like to exchange ideas with various parties from the sector about the identified bottlenecks and possible solutions to prevent situations such as the Van Brienenoord Bridge round.

Position papers

The committee asked the invitees to submit a position paper prior to the round table discussion. In it they write their opinion (or that of their organization) on the topic of discussion. You will find these documents among the documents associated with this round table discussion.
