Ugo Humbert made Bercy vibrate during the Master 1000. The Frenchman, author of benchmark performances, lost in the final to Alexander Zverev.
Despite this disillusionment, he has become the new darling of French tennis. Ugo Humbert was until then only a discreet French number one. From now on, the left-hander is far from being anonymous after an epic at Bercy worthy of note. In the round of 16, the Frenchman faced world number two: Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz. Refusing to be intimidated by a gap of 16 places in the ATP rankings, Ugo Humbert signed the performance of his career by eliminating the Spanish prodigy.
Qualified in the semi-final then in the final, he is the first Frenchman to reach this level since Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in 2011. Faced with Alexander Zverev in the final, the Frenchman lost in two sets against the world number three: 6- 2, 6-2. Next year, the Master 1000 will take up residence at the Défense Arena in Nanterre, now more adapted to the requirements of the pro circuit.
