James Van Der Beek (Dawson) suffering from colorectal cancer: “I remain optimistic”

He is one of the legendary actors of Dawson. James Van Der Beek announced to People this Sunday, November 3. “I have cancer […]. I dealt with this diagnosis privately and took steps to heal myself, with the support of my incredible family”he declared. This cancer can form in the colon or rectum, located in the large intestine of the digestive system. Despite the diagnosis, Kimberly Van Der Beek's husband wants to be reassuring. “There are reasons to be optimistic and I feel good”he adds without revealing more details about his diagnosis and the stage of his illness.

James Van Der Beek still continues to work. He will appear in a special episode of The Real Full Montywhich will be broadcast on December 9. This British reality show was created in 2017 to raise awareness among the general public about screening and research for prostate, testicular and colorectal cancers. Like every year, several celebrities will participate in a striptease show for a good cause. The father of six had confirmed his arrival before announcing his cancer. He will be accompanied by actors Taye Diggs, Tyler Posey and Anthony Anderson. Recently, James Van Der Beek spoke to PEOPLE regarding this event: “It's embarrassing, but I thought I was just doing a favor […] and supported the cause of cancer. But once we got there, when we really started talking about these issues, everyone started opening up and we got to know each other better.”.

In 2010, James Van Der Beek married Kimberly Brook. Since then, the couple have welcomed six children together: four girls born in 2010, 2014, 2016 and 2018, and two boys born in 2012 and 2021. The Dawson Leery interpreter often shares photos of his large family. Recently, he posted photos of himself, his wife and children on Halloween on his Instagram account. James Van Der Beek and his wife were disguised as wizards and witches, while some of his children were transformed into angels.
