Activists occupy Hoeve Kamerhof against A2 widening

Activists have occupied the old farm at Kamerhof 1 in Baakhoven as a protest against the planned widening of the A2. They want to draw attention to the preservation of this historic building and the surrounding nature, which will partly disappear due to the expansion of the highway. Banners hang on the outside with texts such as “This is where poison enters your groundwater”.

The activists also protest against the use of Beaumix, a construction material that may contain harmful substances and cause pollution in the ground and water. They fear health and environmental problems like those previously seen in other projects with Beaumix. The activists are asking the government to find other solutions to the traffic jams, such as improvements in public transport.

“In the current climate and ecological crisis, Rijkswaterstaat continues to worsen the situation, with the support of the Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, by continuing the expansion. In addition to the felling of many trees and the destruction of nature, extra asphalt always results in more car emissions. In addition, research shows that more asphalt does not lead to fewer traffic jams. Other solutions are needed to address mobility issues, such as improvements in public transport,” says a spokesperson for the activists.
