In a revealing episode of ‘The House’, Ruben Van Gucht, the face of Sporza and presenter of ‘De Weekwatchers’, talks about his unconventional married life with Blanka Vlašić. The married couple lives separately – they in Croatia with their son Mondo, while Van Gucht continues his career in Flanders.
Van Gucht explains how he and Blanka use a pragmatic approach. “At the moment this is the best solution,” he explains. “I still have ambitions and bills to pay in Flanders. Blanka takes fantastic care of our son and is happy that I live in Belgium.” Despite their distance, they live an open relationship in which mutual understanding is central. “Blanka and I talk a lot and often laugh about the speculations that are written about us,” says Van Gucht.
Freedom in the relationship
The relationship between Van Gucht and Vlašić is based on open communication. The sports journalist admits that Blanka is not the only woman in his life and that they have made clear agreements about this. “I don’t put a label on it. Everyone deserves the freedom to shape their own relationship. I have a life in Belgium and one in Croatia. There is nothing mysterious about that; we communicate openly about everything,” Van Gucht explains.
When asked whether he also grants Blanka the same freedom, Van Gucht responds affirmatively: “If she wanted the same, that is no problem. We have made agreements about this, and I fully respect that.”
The start of his relationship with Blanka
Van Gucht would like to clear up a persistent misunderstanding. He emphasizes that he only approached Blanka after his divorce with Laurence Van Tongerloo. “I met Blanka in 2019 for an interview, but the spark was not there yet. Only after my divorce did I contact her.”
