Handball by Haps in Inter-Venice: penalty not given to the Nerazzurri, what happened

In the 15th minute there were strong protests from Inter for an alleged handball in the area by Haps, but referee Ferrieri Caputi punished Dumfries’ initial push. Then in the second half Mkhitaryan’s goal was disallowed

A touch of the hand in the penalty area Haps in the 15th minute it sparked protests from the Inter players, especially the captain Lautaro Martinez, at address of the referee Ferrieri Caputi. The latter did not award the penalty to the Nerazzurri, but whistled a foul for Venezia by identifying a push from Dumfries towards his compatriot, last year at Genoa.

Dumfries, in disbelief, repeatedly raised his arms to the sky. From the images you can see Haps touching the ball with his hand, but in a disjointed manner after the push from the Dutch winger which unbalanced him. The VAR check is quick and confirms Ferrieri Caputi’s decision. No penalty for Inter, with Venezia breathing a sigh of relief that the danger had been averted. «The hand touch is very evident, it is an arm over the shoulder. But Ferrieri Caputi whistled for Dumfries’ foul which came before Haps’ touch. It is a field evaluation and the push occurred well before the handball”, Luca Marelli’s comment on Dazn.

Mkhitaryan’s goal disallowed

Another episode in the 6th minute of the second half. Yet another offensive action by Inter. Mkhitaryan steals the ball and passes for Stickstouch wide towards Dimarco which crosses in the middle. The Armenian gets to the ball again and this time finalizes his teammate’s pass. San Siro celebrates, but the game does not resume. Check and Ferrieri Caputi cancels for an offside Dimarco.

The equalizer in the 97th minute

When everything seemed to be over, in the 97th minute the frost descends on San Siro due to Averlo’s equalizer, who overpowers Bisseck and scores the ball into the net. Venezia celebrates, but the goal is disallowed due to a touch of the Croatian defender’s arm. And Inter are saved.
