Gaëlle, Samuel Paty’s sister, wants to “look the accused in the face” at the trial

The trial of eight adults involved in the assassination of Samuel Paty will take place from November 4 to December 20. Her sister, Gaëlle Paty, indicates that she will attend all the hearings.

A moment awaited by the family of Samuel Paty. While the trial of eight adults implicated in the assassination of the teacher in 2020 will take place this Monday, November 4 to December 20 before the special assize court of , his sister Gaëlle expressed her expectations to our colleagues from Nouvel Obs.

She explains that she has been waiting for “this moment for four years” and assures that she will be present “at all the hearings”, especially as she herself is preparing to speak during the trial.

“I think I will need to tell the accused that I am not naive, that without them, Samuel would be alive, and that they are as responsible as those who carried the weapons. They orchestrated what It happened.”

Gaëlle Paty wants to be able to “hear everything”

Gaëlle Paty declares that she wants to “look the accused in the face, hear everything, know everything and say things myself. The trial does not allow me to turn all the pages, but one important one”.

A first trial took place in December 2023, for the six minors who helped direct the terrorist in the direction of Samuel Paty after leaving school. A trial which Gaëlle Paty had also attended.

“Personally, I needed it to approach the new trial, the real trial. To cope. On the other hand, in the juvenile court, my family and I were very disappointed by the teenagers, who said nothing,” she tells Nouvel Obs.

While the place of social networks, as well as the dysfunctions of the State and the lack of protection of Samuel Paty have been widely pointed out in the death of the teacher, Gaëlle Paty believes that this trial “is not the place” to raise these questions, even if she recognizes that “of course, there were dysfunctions”.

The teacher’s sister evokes a “demand for truth” for this trial, after which she hopes to be able to return to a “more normal” life.
