Nottingham Forest defender Ola Aina admits their hard work is starting to pay dividends after beating West Ham 3-0 at the City Ground on Saturday to make it three wins on the spin in the Premier League.
Chris Wood opened the scoring on 27 minutes and Callum Hudson-Odoi doubled the hosts’ lead in the 65th minute before Aina wrapped up the three points with a thunderbolt 12 minutes from time.
The Nigeria international capitalised on some slack defending as he cut inside from the right flank and carried the ball to the top of the D before lashing a shot into the top left corner of the net.
It was only his second goal in Forest colours and Aina revealed he has that ability in his locker, but only chooses to pull it out on rare occasions.
“Sometimes it comes out,” he told Optus Sport after the match. “I like to surprise everyone, it just bounced up right and then I was knackered anyway so I just thought I might as well hit it.”
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are now unbeaten in their last four games and moved up to third in the standings after Arsenal suffered a 1-0 defeat at Newcastle earlier in the day to drop down to fourth place.
Commenting on the Tricky Trees’ lofty position, Aina added: “We are taking every game as it comes and we’re just working hard. That’s the formula, just work hard and take every game as it comes.”
