one week before the start, the race is falling in popularity according to a survey

According to a study carried out by the Odoxa barometer, the French will be much less interested in solo racing this year.

In a week, on November 10, the grand departure of the 10th edition of the Vendée Globe will take place from the port of Les Sables d'Olonne, in Vendée. As with each departure, every four years, the Vendée town should be invaded by the crowd, who can take advantage of the village dedicated to the race for several weeks at the port. But what about the audiences and the overall interest of the French in the event?

According to a survey carried out by the sports barometer Odoxapour Winamax et RTLonly 35% of French people will be interested in the event, i.e. 13 points less than in 2020-2021, date of the last edition won by Yannick Bestaven. The latter, precisely, is the former winner of the Vendée Globe who has the least impact on the French population (3%), indicates this same survey.

However, more than following the event attentively, 7% of French people plan to participate in the virtual Vendée Globe game, entitled Virtual Regatta. The opportunity for everyone to imagine themselves in the shoes of the skippers, judged “adventurous” by 89% of respondents, “friendly” (83%) and “modest” (62%). Finally, among the brave people who will compete in this solo round-the-world trip, Jérémie Beyou is considered the favorite of the French (17%), ahead of Samantha Davies (16%) and Charlie Dalin (15%).
