US presidential election: Harris is surprisingly ahead of Trump in polls in Iowa

In the last poll before the presidential election, the Democratic candidate is leading Kamala Harris in conservative Iowa surprisingly ahead of Republican Donald Trump. CNN reports this, citing a survey conducted jointly by the daily newspaper Des Moines Register and the cable network operator Mediacom. According to this, Harris is among likely voters with 47 percent, ahead of former President Donald Trump, who has 44 percent. However, the lead is within the poll’s 3.4-point margin of error.

Although there is no clear lead, the results suggest a shift towards Harris. The previous month, the results of the survey were almost the opposite – 47 percent of likely voters were in favor of the ex-president and 43 percent in favor of Joe Biden’s current deputy.

Voter preferences differ depending on age and gender

According to the survey, voter tendencies differ in particular with regard to two characteristics. Accordingly, women gave in Iowa 56 percent said they wanted to vote for Harris, only 36 percent preferred Trump. For men it was the other way around, with 52 percent saying they wanted to vote for the Republican, while 38 percent supported the Democrat.

Harris also appears to appeal more to older people: 55 percent of likely voters aged 65 and over support her, while 36 percent voted for Trump in the poll. Among those under 35, it was roughly evenly distributed, with 46 percent saying they wanted to vote for Harris and 44 percent for Trump.

The majority has a favorite

The majority, 91 percent, also said they had already decided who they would like to vote for in next Tuesday’s election. The survey was conducted by telephone between October 28th and 31st and 808 people took part.

In the last two elections, Donald Trump won Iowa. In this year’s election, the state was actually one of those states that… republican should win for themselves and not among the swing states. The latter are particularly hotly contested in the election campaign because that is where the election is decided.
