Harris plans to vote by mail in the US election

Will Kamala Harris win next week?Bild: keystone

According to her campaign team, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris is likely to vote by mail in the US presidential election. At least this is the US vice president’s plan, the US broadcaster CNN quoted a spokesman for Harris’ campaign team as saying. But he doesn’t have any further news about it. It was unclear whether Harris had already submitted the ballot. Harris wants to be a role model for other voters and show that there are different ways to vote, the spokesman continued.

Harris lives in the US state of California – but she hasn’t traveled there recently. Instead, she focused her election campaign on the particularly hotly contested swing states, where the Democrats or Republicans do not traditionally always win. California is considered a so-called “blue state” – so the Democrats usually win here.

Husband Emhoff and Biden voted early

Harris’ husband Doug Emhoff posted on the X platform that he had cast his vote early by letter. Unsurprisingly, he voted for his wife. «I voted for Kamala Harris as President of the United States. I will never forget this moment.”

US President Joe Biden cast his vote almost a week ago at a polling station in his home state of Delaware. It is unclear when Republican candidate Donald Trump will vote. Most recently, he said he wanted to cast his vote early. In the past, Trump has repeatedly claimed, without evidence, that the process leads to fraud. Most recently, he encouraged his supporters to vote early.

The US broadcaster CNN reported, citing its own surveys in collaboration with institutes, that around 70 million votes had been cast so far. The number corresponds to almost 45 percent of the approximately 158 million votes cast in the 2020 presidential election. Harris and Trump will compete against each other in the vote on Tuesday (November 5th). Polls predict a close race. (sda/dpa)

On the Spanish holiday island of Mallorca, heavy rain and thunderstorms have caused rising river levels and some dangerous situations. The fire brigade had to be deployed almost 90 times on Friday and once on the neighboring island of Menorca, as the Europapress news agency reported. However, the Aemet weather service gave the all-clear in the morning: a warning level no longer applies to the archipelago.
