Bournemouth’s shock win over Man City shows why Liverpool are pushing to sign Cherries duo

Liverpool are a tough nut to crack in the transfer market as they keep their cards close to their chests unless a deal is at an advanced stage.

The Reds refrained from splashing the cash in the summer transfer window, with Federico Chiesa the only player who walked through the door at Anfield.

An agreement to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili was reached, but the Valencia goalkeeper will only arrive at the club in the summer of 2025.

However, Liverpool are expected to refresh their squad in the upcoming transfer windows.

And a Bournemouth duo they have been linked with have just shown why they could be perfect additions to Arne Slot’s squad.

Milos Kerkez and Antoine Semenyo are held in high regard at Bournemouth and have delivered a string of magnificent displays under Andoni Iraola this season.

Kerkez has been scouted by Liverpool and did his reputation no harm with his performance against the Reds this season despite the Cherries losing 3-0.

On the other hand, Semenyo also has keen admirers at Anfield as the attacker continues to enhance his reputation with his performances at the Vitality Stadium.

Both players played starring roles for Bournemouth today in their 2-1 win against Manchester City, with Kerkez notching up two assists and Semenyo getting his name on the scoresheet.

Bournemouth’s victory was great news for Liverpool as they leapfrogged the Cityzens to move to the top of the Premier League standings.

Do Liverpool need Semenyo and Kerkez?

With Andy Robertson not getting younger and his contract set to expire in 2026, Liverpool could look to offload him next summer if the right offer comes along as opposed to losing him for free a year later.

If that were to be the case, Kerkez would certainly be one of their targets for the left-back spot, with Richard Hughes playing a key role in his signing last summer for Bournemouth.

As for Semenyo, he could emerge as a target next summer if Mohamed Salah departs the club, with the Egyptian’s contract set to expire at the end of next season.

Liverpool will do everything it takes to renew Salah’s contract, but if Semenyo keeps developing in the same trajectory, he could emerge as a target in the future as the Egyptian’s long-term successor.
