Lightning and thunder for the Formula 1 drivers on Saturday afternoon in São Paulo. Continuous rain forced the organizers to cancel qualifying for today.
Qualifying should actually have started at 7 p.m. Swiss time. Due to the bad weather, the start was postponed several times – until it was finally canceled around two hours later.
The new plan is to reschedule qualifying on Sunday morning, as Formula 1 managing director Stefano Domenicali immediately confirmed. The weather forecast for race day doesn’t bode well either. The GP itself is scheduled for 6 p.m. Swiss time.
Previously, the sprint race on Saturday, a few hours before the planned qualification, had taken place without any problems and was still dry – World Championship chaser Lando Norris had won ahead of his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri.
After a subsequent five-second penalty, Max Verstappen took fourth place in the Red Bull, behind Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari. He lost three points in the ranking and now leads Norris with 44.
