Lando Norris forces Oscar Piastri’s hand

The Brazilian Grand Prix Sprint was marked by a victory for Lando Norris, who was able to take advantage of his McLaren team’s strategy despite some tensions with his teammate, Oscar Piastri.

From the start of the Sprint of the Brazilian Grand Prix, Lando Norris showed a faster pace than that of Oscar Piastri. Having visibly agreed with the team on a possible reversal of positions if necessary, the Briton did not hesitated to request this change.

However, McLaren’s decision was slow to materialize, creating a moment of uncertainty during the race. Eventually, Piastri let Norris pass, allowing the latter to take the lead.

“I’m not particularly proud of this situation, but we worked as a team, and I want to thank Oscar for his cooperationsaid Norris after the race.
The team did an excellent job, and it allowed us to achieve the desired result. Although it was not easy, I am satisfied with our performance.”

Tensions well controlled by Norris

As he found himself behind his teammate, Norris briefly considered overtaking Piastri under his own power, but quickly recognized the difficulty of the exercise.

“It was difficult to stay close in these conditions, I would catch up with him then he would move away again because of the dirty airhe explained. Even if I was faster, the configuration of the Sprint made any attempt to overtake difficult.”

Norris, however, stressed that McLaren had a good overall pace, sufficient to contain the attacks of the drivers who followed: “We were clearly faster than those behind, but in this type of format, management remains difficult.”

Piastri satisfied despite a difficult race

For Oscar Piastri, this Sprint proved more difficult. Between a bumpy track and narrow trajectories, the Australian had to be extra vigilant. However, he remains positive about McLaren’s overall performance.

“It was a complex race, but we collected valuable points for the team” he declared.

Piastri is now looking forward to the main race with optimism: “We will try to reproduce this performance tomorrow. The pace was good, although the Ferraris were very fast at the start, and Max Verstappen showed his power at the end of the race. Some adjustments remain to be made, but this day was encouraging .”

A promising weekend for McLaren

This Brazilian Sprint thus highlighted the competitiveness of McLaren, although certain tensions appeared between its drivers.

As the team prepares for the main race, both drivers hope to maintain their momentum, while continuing to fine-tune the settings of their cars. With a united team and good pace on the track, McLaren seems ready to face the challenges ahead.
