Returning to the Michel d'Ornano stadium after a trip to Martigues at the start of the week (0-3), Stade Malherbe Caen hosted Bastia on Saturday November 2, 2024. After honored Alexandre Mendy before the meeting, the Caennais continued a second success in a row scoreless (2-0).
Alexandre Mendy again
The start of the match is in favor of the Corsicans who made several incursions into the Caen area during the first ten minutes. Then the first ball arrives in the Bastia area. Bilal Brahimi's cross is unfortunately a little too long for Mickaël Le Bihan at the far post (10′). Bastia obtains situations and passes a cold sweat on the back of the Caen kop. Amine Boutral's center is doubly deflected and is finally taken over by a Bastiais player. Yannis Clémentia, once again established by Nicolas Seube, is beaten, but the ball hits the post before returning to his arms (12′).
The Caennais then wake up. Kalifa Coulibaly crosses to Mickaeël Le Bihan, very active in this first half. The former Auxerrois is too short to resume (20′). A few minutes later, the same Le Bihan shifts Lecoeuche but the left side's shot narrowly misses (23'). The Norman possessions follow one another until Mickaël Le Bihan crosses towards Alexandre Mendy, who has broken away from the marking. The attacker places a superb volley with the right foot to open the score (1-0, 30′). Bastia then pushes to come back before the break and would have maybe could have benefited from a penalty when a center is diverted by Quentin Lecoeuche (41′). The Caen full-back touches the ball while he was putting his hands behind his back to defend.
A goal from a direct free kick
The first opportunity of the second half is for the Corsicans when Mohamed Cissé, who entered at the break, tries his luck, but it's captured by Clémentia (52′). Caen added a second goal just before the hour mark when Bilal Brahimi took charge of a good free kick. The center of the Caen number 10 is good and prevents Placide from leaving. No one from Caen can regain the ball, but the latter is on target and deceives the Bastia goalkeeper (2-0, 57′).
Bastia uncovers himself to try to come back and Caen now proceeds against but without being able to kill the match. Boutral takes a good free kick towards a Corsican header, but it is deflected for a corner by Bolumbu (72'). Quentin Lecoeuche is next the last rampart before Cissé's recovery (84′). On the following corner, Yannis Clementia is vigilant to deflect again. This same Clementia then imposes itself in the air in a good Bastia center (85′). Caen keeps his clean sheet for the second consecutive match. The Malherbistes were terribly effective on both sides of the field.
Football moves very quickly. A week earlier, SM Caen was whistled by his audience after the defeat against Troyes (0-1). Saturday November 2, 2024 had more of an air of communion between a team and its supporters. Caen thus moves up to 13th place “only” five points from 5th place.
