So, it’s match day again. West Ham travel to Nottingham Forest in search of a second successive victory after the lucky last – minute win over Manchester United thanks to Jarrod Bowen’s excellent penalty conversion. I suspect I am not alone in waiting nervously for the team news to drop and being desperate for Lopetegui to actually send out what everyone else seems to know – his best eleven.
Jeff Stelling nailed it on talksport:
“Let’s not be too fair to Lopetegui, because, frankly, I was staggered when I saw that West Ham team,” Stelling said.
“They haven’t got Mohammed Kudus in the side, and yet he still will not start Crysencio Summerville. It was absolutely beyond belief.
“He got out of jail, because West Ham were useless in the first half (against Man United). They could have been 4-0 down. And right now, instead of talking about Ten Hag, we’d have been talking about Julen Lopetegui and his future at West Ham.
So he got lucky”
Last week I had to contain myself having declared that I’d throw my mug of tea at the TV if Carlos Soler started on the left instead of Summerville.
Summerville was not Lopetegui’s Choice BUT WHO CARES ! He needs to start before I launch my mug of tea at the screen
In the same way, we all can see Lucas Paquetá needs a spell on the bench to clear his head and be reminded that he doesn’t walk into the team without performing. Selecting the wrong players and then correcting it at half time is not something for which Lopetegui deserves credit – more a kick up the pants.
If it happens again I’ll just sit and watch a first half knowing we won’t be so lucky and will be 2 or 3 down by half time. Can the Head Coach not see what we all do? Baffling. C.O.Y.I
