The prefect delegate for the defense and security of the Rhône announced this Saturday morning that an “important device” will be deployed this evening in the Velette district of Rillieux-la-Pape. After two nights of violence, the objective is to “bring peace to the neighborhood”.
“Calm has returned,” said Juliette Bossart-Trignat, delegated prefect for the defense and security of the Rhône, this Saturday, November 2 at the microphone of BFMTV, while the Velette district in Rillieux-la-Pape was the scene of two consecutive nights of violence.
Two TCL buses were set on fire by around twenty people this Friday evening around 9 p.m. The group then used the contents of glass silos as projectiles against law enforcement. A police officer was injured in the head. Residents of an adjacent building had to leave their homes, fearing that flames from the buses would spread to their building.
The day before, on Halloween night, three cars were set on fire and four people, all minors, were arrested.
“The residents who had to leave their homes urgently in the middle of the night were very shocked. We share their anger and indignation at this group of young people who think they can do anything, who committed completely gratuitous violence and who then weighs on the lives of the inhabitants These are buses which are used to go to work, to school”, reacted the prefect delegated for the defense and security of the Rhône.
“Unacceptable events”
To prevent this violence from happening again, Juliette Bossart-Trignat announced this Saturday morning that the police presence would be maintained. “This evening again, an important system will be put in place: CRS, CDI, the BAC, the canine brigade and the municipal police, to restore calm in this neighborhood following these unacceptable events,” he said. she detailed.
Investigations are underway to “find the perpetrators so that they can take responsibility before the courts”. “I hope that the use of video surveillance tapes will be decisive and useful,” said Juliette Bossart-Trignat.
“The investigations will obviously clarify the link with the events of the previous night,” she clarified. Indeed, the mayor of Rillieux-la-Pape quickly denounced the link between the two incidents.
“There were young children, mothers, elderly people who were outside in the cold because 15 thugs decided that they were not happy that an accomplice had been arrested. That's no, that’s not what the Republic is,” declared Alexandre Vincendet, “Horizons” mayor of the town.
The prefect delegated for the defense and security of the Rhône reaffirmed, this Saturday morning, her support for the residents. “I hope that they are convinced that the State and the police are at their side to bring peace to this neighborhood, to identify the perpetrators and allow them to live the normal and peaceful life to which they have the law I also have a thought for the police officer who was injured, I wish him a good recovery.
