Dender lost 2-0 on Friday evening at KVC Westerlo. A missed opportunity for Dender, which saw Westerlo jump over them to sixth place.
Dender didn’t cause Westerlo much trouble. The visitors didn’t put up enough offensively, but they did play a solid match. “We are left with a frustrated feeling after this match,” Kobe Cools admitted afterwards.
“We played a good game, but we just forgot to finish it. We didn’t take the chances we had. They scored the first one and then they could start playing on the counter,” he continued.
Westerlo was a lot more efficient, although they could have scored more than twice. “We had a few good opportunities to take the lead. But they took their chances, and that is a bit more difficult for us at the moment.”
Cools also made a penalty foul on Frigan, although the ref did not see it all immediately. “I also have to be honest: with that penalty I knew I had hit it. When the ref was called to the VAR, I already knew what time it was.”
Afterwards, the players sat in a circle to chat for a while. Cools told what was said there. “That we just have to move on. That this is part of it. There are periods when things will not go as well and the balls will not go in as easily. That is part of the process, we have to keep working hard together.”
Westerlo jumped over Dender in the standings, but that is not immediately a disaster. “That could be completely different next week, all the clubs are so close to each other. We are not in a position where we have to look at the rankings a lot,” the defender concludes.
