It took around three quarters of an hour for a few hooded young people, apparently from several sectors of the new town, to turn the Velette district upside down and paralyze part of the traffic.
Furious, residents fled the scene, some even abandoning their homes, frightened by the noise of the explosions which echoed throughout the new town where several cars were set on fire. Arriving in large numbers on the scene, the police were greeted by mortar fire.
Five vehicles burned
At 9:15 p.m. the first report showed five vehicles burned, several garbage containers burned in the middle of Avenue Leclerc and street furniture destroyed (bus stop, glass silo). Another group of people tried to cause trouble in the Roue sector, opposite the new town. An attempt quickly aborted.

“Following these incidents, four minors aged 13 to 17 were arrested very quickly and placed in police custody,” tells us the mayor (Horizons) of Rillieux-la-Pape Alexandre Vincendet.
In a press release published on Facebook, he continued: “Beyond the legal proceedings which will be initiated against them, all parents responsible for the education of their children will be summoned in the coming days to a council of rights and duties of families established for several years. It goes without saying that these delinquents, all minors, and their parents, are exposed to the suspension of optional aid from the municipality and the municipal social action center. »
This Friday morning, November 1, the neighborhood was almost deserted. The few people we met were still in shock. “We don’t understand. My arms are cut off. Why such violence? » asked a person accompanied by their child while waiting for the bus.
