The mother of Santiago, a baby born extremely premature in Aulnay-sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis) and found in an Amsterdam hotel last Fridayshould be handed over to the French authorities next week, the Amsterdam court said in l'AFP. She is currently imprisoned in the Netherlands.
Both parents of the child were placed in pre-trial detention after their arrest on October 24, 2024. France had requested an accelerated procedure so that the couple could be repatriated. The baby, less than a month old and extremely premature, requiring constant care, was found safe and sound.
A longer procedure for the father
Concerning the father of the child, we will have to wait a little longer. “He opted for the long procedure and the request for surrender will be processed during a public hearing of the International Legal Assistance Chamber at a later date,” explained the court spokesperson. The date of this hearing is not yet known.
THE Short procedures are typically evaluated within 10 days by the council chamber of the Amsterdam court, the hearing being held in camera. “In the long procedure, the case is examined within 60 to 90 days by the International Judicial Assistance Chamber (IRK) of the Amsterdam court,” said the spokesperson.
Removed from Aulnay-sous-Bois
For reasons yet to be determined, both parents of the child had kidnapped the child, hospitalized at Robert Ballanger. They had hidden the baby in a shopping bag, in order to evade the vigilance of the caregivers. The kidnapping alert system had been activated all day on October 22, 2024, but the parents had already fled abroad.
