New promising episode and perhaps the epilogue of the 56-year-old Caravelle Ajaccio-Nice drama. At the Nice courthouse, lawyers for the victims' families met the prosecutor in charge of the investigation.

He expressed a favorable opinion on taking photos and recovering the cabin. “56 years later, 56 years of suffering, 56 years of official silence, 56 years of state secrecy, now the State must recognize that there was indeed a missile which hit the Caravelle by mistake”, protests Louis Poli, parent of victims of the Caravelle crash.

On September 11, 1968, flight AF1611 departing from Ajaccio was preparing to land in Nice. The plane sinks to a depth of more than 2,000 meters. After 56 years of investigation and twists and turns, the families are asking that the remains of the plane be refloated or that underwater photos be taken.

The Élysée gave its approval last week, today, it was the Nice prosecutor that the lawyers addressed. “What he wants is for things to go quickly, supports Me Paul Sollacaro, lawyer for the victims' families. And that we get feedback fairly quickly on the question of feasibility so that if feasibility comes back in a positive manner, the fishing operations or photographic taking can be carried out quickly.

The families of the 95 victims have always believed that a missile, fired by mistake by the army, was the cause of the crash. “Despite the time that has passed, I consider today and we already considered it in last week when we were received at the Élysée that we were at a turning point in this affair.”, estimates Mr. Philippe Soussi, lawyer for the victims’ families.

Next step, an expert should be contacted to examine the feasibility of the operation.
