The limited traffic zone, which will come into force on Monday, November 4, will include the I, II, III and IV districts.
From this Monday, November 4, the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th arrondissements of Paris will move into a limited traffic zone (ZTL). Concretely, drivers “in transit”, not stopping in the defined sector of this ZTL will not have the right to cross it.
All streets, squares and boulevards serving as boundaries of the limited traffic zone are excluded from all restrictions. In detail, on the west side, the area is bordered by Place de la Concorde, Rue Royale and Place de la Madeleine.
To the north, Boulevard de la Madeleine, Boulevard des Capucines, Boulevard desItaliens, Boulevard Montmartre, Boulevard Poissonnière, Boulevard de Bonne Nouvelle, Boulevard Saint-Denis and Boulevard Saint-Martin mark the outline of the perimeter.
The docks finally excluded from the perimeter
To the east, Place de la République, Boulevard du Temple, Boulevard des Filles du Calvaire, Boulevard Beaumarchais, Place de la Bastille and Boulevard Bourdon, which set the limits of the ZTL. On the south side, the quays between Quai Henry IV and Quai des Tuileries serve as a boundary. Despite the wishes of the town hall, the docks are therefore excluded from the restriction zone.
A list of exceptions has been drawn up, including for example professional vehicles for healthcare personnel, taxis and VTCs, vehicles for people with reduced mobility holding the mobility-inclusion card, etc.
The town hall intends to reduce traffic in the hyper-center of Paris, up to 30% on avenue de l'Opéra, 15% on boulevard de Sébastopol, between 11 and 13% on quai Henri IV, according to a study. The objective is also to reduce noise pollution and improve air quality.
