Tottenham offers City, Van Nistelrooy makes his first with United

The round of 16 of the English League Cup ended this Wednesday with the victory of Tottenham Spurs against Guardiola's City (2-1). After the dismissal of ten Hag, Manchester United won with the first of Ruud Van Nistelrooy on the bench.

With a largely overhauled squad, Manchester City failed to qualify for the next round of the League Cup. On the Tottenham pitch, Guardiola conceded his first defeat of the season. The fault is Werner and Sarr who gave Spurs success. On a superb ball release, Kulusevski served on the side and adjusted a right foot pass to find his German teammate at the edge of the area. Werner opened the scoring after 5 minutes of play. The Swede would offer a second assist to Sarr in the 25th minute. On a two-played corner, the ball reached the Senegalese who sent a shot outside the area, unstoppable for Ortega. The reduction of Nunes' score in added time of the first act will not change anything. After their defeat at Palace, Tottenham recovered by offering themselves the reigning English champion.

United and Van Nistelrooy put on a show

What's better than a cup victory to make you forget the departure of your coach. Manchester United had fun against Leicester while Ruud Van Nistelrooy, deputy under ten Hag, officiated for the first time on the Red Devils bench. The club's former goalscorer and Dutch football legend attended an attacking festival. Casemiro also scored a double (15th, 39th) as did Bruno Fernandes (36th, 59th). Garnacho will be included on the list of scorers on the Mancunian side. Despite some defensive flaws, which saw El Khannouss (33rd) and Coady (45th +3) allow the Foxes to believe in it, United did the job. Van Nistelrooy is off to a perfect start to his interim period.

Arsenal and Liverpool in the next round

Opposed to Preston, Championship team, Arsenal did not tremble by winning largely (0-3). Gabriel Jesus turned into a goalscorer before delivering an assist for Nwaneri's third goal in the competition. Havertz finished the Gunners' job in the second act. For its part, defending champion Liverpool deprived of Mo Salah won their duel against Brighton (2-3). Gakpo's double put the Reds on the right track. Despite goals from Lamptey and Adingra, Liverpool ended the suspense by scoring a third goal through Luis Diaz.
