Bayer star only needs 23 seconds!

Bayer Leverkusen got off to the perfect start in the DFB Cup game against SV Elversberg. After less than a minute, the Werkself celebrate. And it gets even better.

Patrik Schick can not only score late goals – but also early ones! And how: In Leverkusen there were just 23 seconds on the clock when Xabi Alonso's team celebrated for the first time against SV Elversberg. (Bayer Leverkusen – SV Elversberg in SPORT1-LIVE TICKER)

After sparkling clean combination play, the ball landed at Nathan Tella. The winger played the ball flat into the box to Schick and he just had to keep the slip clean.

The double chic

Schick even went one better: the Czech striker scored a second time in the 9th minute. After a cross from Jonas Hofmann, Elversberg keeper Nicolas Kristof unfortunately deflected the ball and Schick was able to easily put the ball into the goal a second time from close range.

However, Schick's first goal wasn't quite enough to set a DFB Cup record. Ardian Morina – who was playing for SSV Ulm at the time (currently plays for Illertissen II) – scored the fastest goal in cup history to date against Fortuna Düsseldorf after 13 seconds.

Schick is known for late goals

Schick is actually better known for late goals. For example, in the 3-2 Europa League win against Qarabag Agdam last season, Schick scored twice in stoppage time.

Schick was also able to score late in the cup against Elversberg. In the bitter 4-3 defeat in the 2022/23 season, Schick was able to score the next goal in the 89th minute.
