Attack on TAI facilities in Ankara: There are dead and injured

An explosion occurred at the Kahramankazan facilities of Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc. (TAI) in Ankara at 15.30.

Minister of Internal Affairs Ali Yerlikaya, in his post on his X account, said, “A terrorist attack was carried out against TAI Ankara Kahramankazan facilities.”

The Minister announced that there were people who lost their lives and were injured in the attack.

Upon hearing explosions and gunshots, security forces, firefighters and medical teams were dispatched to the area.

For security reasons, personnel were directed to shelters.

Following the attack, the session of the General Assembly of the Parliament, where the Lebanon resolution was discussed, was adjourned.

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç said that a judicial investigation was launched into the incident by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and a deputy chief prosecutor and eight public prosecutors were appointed.

Yerlikaya said, “The public will be informed about the developments. Please take into account the statements from official sources.”

A similar warning was previously made in the statement made by the Center for Combating Disinformation under the Directorate of Communications.

'It targeted Turkey's achievements in the defense industry'

Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz said, “This treacherous terrorist attack targeted Turkey's achievements in the defense industry.”

Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır “We will never step back from the defense industry and the National Technology Move journey,” he said.

It was stated that Presidency's Defense Industry President (SSB) Haluk Görgün and TAI General Manager Mehmet Demiroğlu were at the International Defense, Aviation and Space Industry Fair SAHA EXPO held in Istanbul at the time of the attack.

It was reported that Görgün, Demiroğlu and other senior officials set out to return to Ankara after the attack.

NATO: 'We stand by Turkey'

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte: “Reports of dead and injured people in Ankara are deeply worrying. As NATO, we stand by our ally Turkey. We strongly condemn all forms of terrorism and are monitoring developments closely.”

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel: “I condemn the terrorist attack against TAI facilities in Kahramankazan, Ankara. I wish God's mercy to our citizens who were martyred in the attack, a speedy recovery to our wounded, and my condolences to our nation. I condemn terrorism, no matter who and where it comes from.”

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur YavaşHe said: “I am deeply saddened by the conflict and terrorist attack that took place at the TAI facility in Ankara. May God have mercy on our martyrs and wish a speedy recovery to our wounded. We condemn terrorism. Our condolences.”

What is TAI?

TAI is one of Turkey's largest defense industry companies. It was established in 1973 within the Ministry of Industry and Technology in order to contribute to the development of the domestic defense industry.

In 2005, Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc. By merging with (TAI), the two companies began to continue their activities under the roof of TUSAŞ.

The company has become one of Turkey's technology centers in areas such as the development, modernization and production of aviation and space industry systems.

Today, nearly 55 percent of TAI's shares belong to the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, and nearly 45 percent of its shares belong to the Presidency of Defense Industries.

TAI has recently developed many helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles and aircraft.

Aircraft such as unmanned aerial vehicles ANKA and Aksungur, attack helicopter Atak, general purpose helicopter Gökbey, Hürkuş, Hürjet and KAAN were developed at TAI.
