The Minister of the Interior notably condemned, on Sunday evening, “unjustifiable violence” involving supporters on the sidelines of Montpelier-OM.

At the end of a (new) weekend marked by incidents in Ligue 1 stadiums, Bruno Retailleau does not want to stop there. This Sunday evening, after Marseille supporters were forced to turn around even before the start of the game between and OM – notably due to clashes with CRS on the outskirts of the Hérault town – the Minister of the Interior reacted on its X account.

“This evening again, during the Montpellier/Marseille match, unjustifiable violence has tarnished the image of football, wrote Bruno Retailleau, condemning at the same time the homophobic chants heard at the Parc des Princes on Saturday during PSG-. Homophobic chants, clashes between supporters’ clubs, attacks by the police, we can no longer stand the fact that every week, sport is the scene of intolerable acts. For my part, I will not tolerate it. This week, in conjunction with the Minister of Sports and Othman Nasrou, Secretary of State in charge of the fight against discrimination, I will bring together French football authorities to take the necessary measures to restore order in the stadiums and in margin of meetings.”

Before the reaction of the Minister of the Interior concerning the excesses in Montpellier, Gil Avérous, the Minister of Sports, Youth and Community Life, and Othman Nasrou, Secretary of State to the Minister of the Interior, responsible for citizenship and the fight against discrimination, had, earlier in the day Sunday, “firmly condemned these homophobic songs and discriminatory slogans” chanted at the Parc des Princes, specifying that a meeting was already in the works with the president of the LFP, Vincent Labrune, to “discuss additional measures that can be deployed to prevent the recurrence of such homophobic acts”.
