I always thought my mother was an angel“: Nicoletta opens up about her childhood in A Sunday in the countryside on France 2

Since she mentions her grandmother, Frédéric Lopez asks Nicoletta for a word about her parents. “I didn’t have one, my mother had mental health problems. She was so nice. I would say she was what we call mentally retarded. She had the mind of a little girl in the body of a young woman. Result, she had to play doctor in the village barns with the son of the neighbor of the house opposite, and I was born nine months later in April“, reports the singer. Subsequently, her grandmother became her guardian. “My mom did what she could, I was a bit like her doll. But I loved my mother very much because people like her have no malice. I always thought my mother was an angel“, she smiles.

A Sunday in the countryside : Nicoletta explains to Frédéric Lopez when she understood that her mother was different

At the end of this sequence dedicated to Nicoletta’s parents, the artist recounts how she understood that her mother was different. “Because of the other children. Around 7-8 years old, I had to fight with the boys because they didn’t care about my mother and I protected her. I had to arm myself early against adversity“, testifies the artist. However, the little girl that she was always wanted to pull her mother up. “We want to give him his knowledge. When the Christmas holidays came, it irritated me that she couldn’t read or write. I sat with her on a table, I took notebooks and postcards, I made her write letters to her family for greetings. She copied what I wrote, I spent the afternoon there. It was important and I was very happy about it“, she concludes.
