Bougane Gueye Dany was arrested for refusing to comply (Gendarmerie)

On October 19, 2024, around 1:40 p.m., the Bakel territorial gendarmerie brigade arrested Bougane Gueye Dany, leader of the Gueum sa Bopp movement. The latter was arrested for refusing to comply during a security check on the road between Semme and Bakel.

The events took place at the Bondji gendarmerie station, where the opponent’s procession of 13 vehicles was stopped by the police. He was asked to make a temporary stop in order to let the President of the Republic’s convoy pass, a measure taken for security reasons. The authorities specified that Bougane Gueye Dany could have resumed his route once the passage of the presidential convoy had finished.

However, the opponent refused to follow the police’s instructions. He would have encouraged the members of his procession to force the roadblock and continue on their way. Faced with this situation, the Bakel gendarmerie company mobilized a platoon from the Surveillance and Intervention Squadron (ESI) to intercept the convoy.

The intervention took place at the Tourime bridge, a village located 12 km from Bondji. The police then arrested Bougane Gueye Dany, who was taken to the Bakel gendarmerie brigade. The public prosecutor at the Tambacounda high court was immediately informed of the facts.
