Serhou Guirassy once again proved to be a savior in times of need. The new signing’s header from Stuttgart in the 83rd minute for a 2-1 (1-0) tremor victory over St. Pauli saved Borussia Dortmund from further deteriorating mood after a mixed start to the season so far.

As in the last home game against Bochum (4:2) with his first brace in the black and yellow jersey, the Guinea national player took on the role of match winner. “He’s super professional. An absolute professional who is used to performing every three days,” enthused sports director Sebastian Kehl.
Although the striker was one of the last professionals to return from the international break with two games for his country, he struck ice-cold just five minutes after Eric Smith equalized for the promoted team (78th). The agreement between Dortmund and the association from Guinea paid off. “We tried to influence the national team time,” revealed Kehl. “He didn’t play completely twice. That was a good thing.”
Sahin praises Bensebaini
At the end of a lackluster performance from the team, there was extra praise not only for Guirassy, but also for Rami Bensebaini. According to Kehl, the header that gave the team a 1-0 lead two minutes before the break “was really good” for the full-back. After all, the Algerian international has not been part of the regular team for a long time and was probably only included in the starting line-up due to the injury of new signing Yan Couto.

Like Kehl, coach Nuri Sahin also expressed his appreciation for Bensebaini. “I already said in the summer that I find this player very exciting. I was a huge fan of his when he still played for Gladbach,” said the BVB coach. Sahin is hoping for an initial spark: “Hopefully this is a step in the right direction for him. Now it’s about getting consistency in your game.”
