President of the French Rugby Federation since June 2023, Florian Grill was re-elected this Saturday for a four-year term, quite clearly beating his rival Didier Codorniou, with 67% of the votes.
Florian Grill is leaving for a second term! Elected president of the French Rugby Federation on June 14, 2023, during elections following the forced resignation of Bernard Laporte, the leader, just 59 years old, was re-elected this Saturday noon. While he had obtained 58% of the votes against Patrick Buisson last year, the Parisian this time collected 67% of the votes against Didier Codorniou, the former three-quarter center of the XV of France (31 selections from 1979 to 1985), Narbonne and Toulouse, who launched into the presidential battle last May. The campaign was tough between the two men, in particular because of their differences of opinion on the state of the finances of the FFR, and they multiplied the little phrases and the innuendoes, but in the end, the 1721 clubs authorized to to vote for the president have decided to renew their confidence in Florian Grill. A vote marked Friday by a technical problem, which was resolved and which was not linked to the candidates, according to the electoral operations monitoring commission.
A golden summer but full of controversies
Florian Grill, former amateur player at the PUC and in Manhattan, former president of the Boulogne-Billancourt club and former president of the Ile-de-France League, is therefore leaving for a four-year term, with a program which plans in particular to do everything to increase the number of licensees, to financially help clubs and territories, to raise the level of all French teams, to increase the weight of the FFR in World Rugby (where Abdelatif Benazzi is one of the favorites for next month’s presidential election) and to straighten out the Federation’s accounts. Despite a summer full of controversies (disappearance of Narjissi, racist remarks by Jaminet, indictment for rape of Jégou and Auradou) that the gold medal won in rugby sevens at Paris 2024 will have made us forget for only a few days, Florian Grill is confirmed by the voters. It is up to him to apply his program until 2028 from now on.
