Israeli media said that two soldiers were injured in a shooting attack near the Dead Sea carried out by gunmen who crossed from Jordan on Friday.

Israeli Army Radio reported that the shooting incident occurred about 3 kilometers from the Ilot settlement, south of the Dead Sea.

Al Jazeera’s correspondent said that the perpetrators of the operation were 3 people, and the occupation army killed two of them, while the third returned to Jordan.

The Israeli army sent reinforcements to the scene, and said it was combing the area in search of a third gunman who appeared to have fled.

In turn, Israeli Channel 12 said that there was a security investigation into the possibility that the gunmen wearing military uniforms was an attempt to disguise themselves as Jordanian soldiers.

As for Israeli Army Radio, it said, “No civilians were injured in the operation, and residents were asked to enter their homes until further instructions were issued.”

The Israeli army said in a statement, “We detected a number of militants who crossed the border from Jordan into the area south of the Dead Sea.”

Israeli Army Radio stated that Israeli forces are searching the area that witnessed the shooting, while Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper said that the Israeli army suspects the presence of more gunmen who infiltrated from Jordan into the area.

From Ramallah, journalist Elias Karam said that the leaks indicated that gunmen were spotted on board a military vehicle early on Friday morning and were reported, but the occupation army did not move until after the operation began.

The occupation army sent reinforcements to the area, and military helicopters were seen flying near the border in search of the third gunman.

Karam added that the army issued instructions to residents of towns adjacent to the border to stay at home until “the danger has passed.”

Following the operation, Israel established security reinforcements near hotels and resorts overlooking the Dead Sea.

It is noteworthy that last September, retired Jordanian soldier Maher Al-Jazi killed three Israeli soldiers at the Limbi crossing, before being martyred in an exchange of fire.

Journalist Elias Karam recalled that a Jordanian soldier opened fire at an Israeli crossing a few months ago, but no casualties were reported.
