Weather alert in : “Parents are asked not to pick up their children from school”

The City of has taken measures in view of the orange thunderstorm vigilance. To avoid any accidents, students are asked not to leave school premises.

The latest Météo- bulletin from this Thursday, October 17 at 2 p.m. specifies that orange storm vigilance is maintained until 6 p.m. for Montpellier and its region.

Indeed, the current Cévennes episode which has already caused damage in Ardèche should arrive in our area. Severe thunderstorms, strong gusts of wind, possible hailstones and heavy precipitation are expected. The episode is likely to be brief but potentially violent.

Caution from 5 p.m.

This is why the City of Montpellier has decided to take preventive measures. In a press release, it is announced: “A stormy episode should more specifically affect the metropolis of Montpellier from 5 p.m. today. For these reasons, the City and Metropolis of Montpellier are calling on the population to avoid all travel during the risk period because roads may be closed. “

“It is important that students do not leave schools which will remain open longer. Parents are therefore asked not to pick up their children from school and not to travel at the height of the storm”reminds the City.

Closures

Parks and gardens are closed : as a safety measure, public parks and gardens, cemeteries as well as the Lunaret zoo, the Montmaur woods and the Lez Reserve will be closed to the public this Thursday, October 17 until further notice.

Parking ban on Quai du Piré : this Thursday, October 17 in the afternoon and until further notice, parking is prohibited on the Quai du Pirée, in particular between the Chauliac and Juvénal bridges, the Prés d’Arènes roundabout, avenue de Maurin, the Voie Domitienne.
