The Alpes-Maritimes prefecture, in collaboration with Côte d’Azur airport, is organizing a civil security exercise aimed at testing the triggering of the new siren at the hydrocarbon depot located on the grounds of Nice Côte airport Azure.

This siren will be triggered on Tuesday, November 5 at around 9:30 a.m. and for a duration of 1 minute and 41 seconds. It will be audible within a radius of 1.7 km around the hydrocarbon site.

This “framework” exercise without deployment of resources on the ground also aims to test the coordination of all the services involved in the organization of relief.

As part of this exercise, the activation of this siren called 3 Special Intervention Plan 5 (PPI) does not require any action to be taken by the population or behavior to be adopted.

The triggering of this siren will not cause any disruption to air traffic, road traffic or public transport. Access to the airport will not be disrupted.

Instructions to the population: it is requested

– not to burden the police (17), emergency services (15, 18 and 112) and the authorities with telephone calls (Nice prefecture and town hall);

– not to relay false rumors or false information on social networks;

At the end of this exercise, this siren will be put into service. This siren will be triggered in the event of a serious event occurring at the depot requiring the activation of the Special Intervention Plan (PPI) by State services and the provision of security for the surrounding populations.

What is a Special Intervention Plan (PPI)

The PPI

Specific intervention plan constitutes an operational planning document, approved by the prefect. It must make it possible to deal with an industrial risk linked to an establishment which could represent a danger for the population located nearby.

It aims to organize emergency services around an industrial company or industrial site in the event of an incident whose consequences go beyond the limits of the establishment.

It defines the missions of the State services, its public establishments and local authorities and sets the terms of assistance of private organizations called upon to intervene. It specifies the rules for organizing command at the scene of operations. It details for each risk the measures to be taken and the means likely to be implemented.
