It was found”in a wooded and isolated area of the region”nearly 500 kilometers from Plaine (Bas-Rhin) where the teenager disappeared on September 23, 2023, the interim public prosecutor Alexandre Chevrier announced on Wednesday.

After months of careful research, investigators managed to identify a vehicle, a Ford Puma, which was at the scene at the time of the disappearance, Mr. Chevrier said at a press conference last month.

Active searches have been carried out since the summer on the traces of this Ford Puma, driven by the main suspect in the investigation, Samuel Gonin who committed suicide on July 10 at his home in Besançon and was never heard from investigators in this case.

The investigators used the data that could be extracted from the vehicle tracking system by the IRCGN and carefully retraced the route of the Ford Puma. Searches had been continuing for several weeks at the vehicle’s various stopping points.

Lina’s body was finally discovered on Wednesday during a new phase of research. The Ford Puma had been geolocated at this location on September 24, 2023, the day after the disappearance of the teenager, Mr. Chevrier indicated.

New expertise, including an autopsy, will now take place to determine the causes of Lina’s death and whether or not she was the victim of a sexual assault.

During this long-term investigation, more than 400 hearings were conducted, thousands of procedural acts carried out and hundreds of vehicles analyzed.
