The southern half of France will experience unpredictable weather on Thursday October 17. Météo-France has placed two departments on red alert.
Heavy rainfall will continue in France on Thursday October 17. As Météo-France indicates in its latest bulletin, published mid-morning, two departments have been placed on red alert. That of Ardèche is affected by a “rain-flood” alert while Haute-Loire is threatened by the risk of flooding. 19 other departments are on orange thunderstorm, rain-flood and/or flood alert.
Ardèche is also on orange alert for the risk of flooding. Haute-Loire has been placed on orange “rain-flood” alert. Due to the Cévennes episode which crosses France, significant amounts of precipitation are expected in the next 48 hours in the regions around the Mediterranean. More than 400 mm of rain could fall locally, according to several weather models, raising fears of the overflowing of several rivers in the southern half.
Haute-Loire still in red on Friday
“A low pressure system is rising over the country and stormy precipitation will intensify in many regions, particularly in the south.“, explained Météo France this Wednesday. Due to these conditions, the SNCF decided to interrupt the circulation of its trains on “part” of Occitanie, towards Toulouse. For the day of Friday October 18, Météo-France specified that Haute-Loire will still be on red flood alert, 17 other departments will still be on orange alert.
