Antoine Armand confirms studying a “possible State participation in the capital” of Opella

The Minister of the Economy, Antoine Armand, announced this Tuesday, October 15, to study the “participation” of the State in the capital of the company as well as its “presence on the board of directors”.

Questioned by the National Rally deputy Sébastien Chenu on the question of the sale of Opella to the American fund C&DR, the Minister of the Economy, Antoine Armand, announced to the National Assembly a “possible presence of the State on the council of directors” as well as its “participation in the capital” of Opella.

“I am announcing this to you in agreement with the Prime Minister. I am studying the possible presence of the State on the board of directors and the possible participation of the State in the capital,” he declared .

“The industrial strategy and the sovereignty that we have built in recent years cannot be negotiated, you can count on our vigilance,” added the tenant of Bercy in front of the hemicycle.

Antoine Armand also said he had “launched work on Sanofi which requires an exhaustive assessment of all the public support measures from which the company has benefited over the last ten years”.

A potential sale that makes a lot of noise

As a reminder, the French company Sanofi announced, on Friday October 11, that it would begin “exclusive negotiations” with the American investment fund C&DR with the aim of selling Opella, its subsidiary producing in particular the famous Doliprane.

Present at the Lisieux production site last Monday, the Minister of the Economy declared that “Doliprane will continue to be produced in France” and that “industrial sovereignty” will be maintained. For his part, the President of the Republic assured yesterday that he “fought” for the relocation of the precious paracetamol.

At the same time, the pharmaceutical giant’s announcement last Friday did not fail to provoke a reaction from the unions as well as a large part of the political class who denounce a weakening of the “health security of the country”.
