Threats made during the demonstration against the majority agreement in , a complaint could be filed

“A campaign carried out in hatred”

If the demonstration started calmly, it quickly became stormy. Traffic was blocked but threats were also made. “The general director of the municipality wanted to leave, he was grabbed. The municipal staff were verbally abused and took it very badly. Some demonstrators chanted “you will not get out of here alive”, others were armed of iron bars. Under the pressure, one of the aldermen (Yvon Herman) present felt unwell while leaving the scene.relates the outgoing mayor, and future mayor, Julien Defaux (MR). “Certain demonstrators threatened to go to François Bellot, Pierre-Yves Dermagne and my home. Police officers therefore secured our homes but this is no longer relevant this Tuesday.”

If the demonstration is legal, the manner in which it took place is beyond comprehension. “This is the result of an electoral campaign carried out in hatred of people, during which we played the man more than the ball. We do not want to let what happened go unpunished. A complaint could be filed. I never thought we would reach such extremes.” continues Julien Defaux. The latter returns to the majority pact concluded between his group and that of Pierre-Yves Dermagne. “What we did is not anti-democratic, nor illegal. By joining forces, we are representative.”

Mullens: “I call on everyone to calm down”

For her part, Corine Mullens, head of the @venir list, dissociates herself from these events. “I very quickly learned this Monday that a symbolic gesture would be made around 2:00 p.m. in front of City Hall but not like that. I have never condoned these violent or derogatory comments. But the anger and disillusionment are so great for these people that they made comments that should not have been made in this way. I cannot control all the citizens. I call on everyone to calm down because of what happened. does not serve our cause. I am disappointed by the turn of events, I am not for a policy I wish to remain dignified.”

This nevertheless returns to the reason for this demonstration. “We are here because the citizen’s choice was not respected. The person who will become mayor of is only the 4th best overall score and aldermen will be appointed with 400 votes in preference while most of the candidates on my list have 700, 800 or 900. We invite people to go and vote and we don’t take it into account.”
