Swedish justice confirms the opening of an investigation (without mentioning the name of the player)

The captain of the Blues, Kylian Mbappé, is the target of an investigation by the Swedish police for “rape and sexual assault” after his escapade last week in Stockholm, according to the local press. His entourage denies these accusations.

Where does this matter come from?

It all started with a first article published on the website of the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet. The daily informed us Monday afternoon of the opening of an investigation into an alleged rape which allegedly took place in the hotel where Kylian Mbappé and several of his relatives, including his former teammate at PSG, defender Nordi Mukiele, stayed last week in Stockholm. The daily mentions a report to the police made by a young woman on October 12 but does not mention any suspect. “The police took up the complaint on Saturday after the woman sought treatment,” adds Aftonbladet. The connection established with the Real Madrid striker is only due to his presence in this same hotel on the day of the alleged attack. Questioned by Aftonbladet, neither the prosecutor in charge of the investigation nor the entourage of the alleged victim wished to make any comment concerning a possible involvement of the superstar.

Is Mbappé accused of rape?

The matter remained there until the daily Expressen dropped a bombshell in the evening. According to the media in question, Kylian Mbappé is the target of the Swedish police investigation for “rape and sexual assault” committed on October 10, i.e. Thursday evening, in the center of Stockholm. The designated police department visited the hotel occupied by the player this Monday in order to collect the first testimonies and possible material elements likely to advance the investigation. She allegedly seized clothes on the spot. Briefs, black pants and a black top, according to Expressen. At this stage of the investigations, Kylian Mbappé is considered “reasonably suspicious” in this case, i.e. the lowest level of suspicion provided for by Swedish legislation. This Tuesday morning, Aftonbladet confirms that Mbappé is indeed the person targeted by these accusations.
