League of Nations. Belgium 1- 2: Luck was with the Blues

After a missed penalty by the Belgians and a poor first half, two goals from Randal Kolo Muani offered a laborious success to the team.

At the King Baudouin stadium in Brussels, Philippe, the current king of Belgium, was absent last night to witness the defeat of his “Red Devils” against France. Belgium has not beaten France since 1981. The bad series continued with this new failure of the players of Domenico Tedescho, the Italian coach of Belgium. This seventy-eighth match between two neighbors will not go down in the annals of European competitions because of the low technical level.

Without Kevin De Bruyne as playmaker, the Belgians are lacking creativity in their football. They also gave the stick to be beaten when Tielemans missed the penalty awarded for a foul by Saliba on Openda. Kolo Muani did not make the same mistake by winning the penalty awarded to France after a handball from Faes. The Belgians were rewarded for their efforts by equalizing thanks to a header from Openda. Dominated and under pressure, Didier Deschamps’ players could count themselves lucky not to be behind on the scoreboard at the end of the first period. The coach raised his voice in the locker room in order to wake up his players who were making gross technical errors.

Eleven against ten

VAR denied Manu Kone a goal for offside. A cross from Lucas Digne was headed by Kolo Muani who doubled the score. Aurélien Tchouameni saw red for having cut off the run of Tielmans who was heading towards goal. The Blues finished the match outnumbered and could count themselves lucky not to have nine players on the pitch. Mike Maignan came close to receiving a red card after a risky exit outside his area.

What to remember from this match? The France team is orphaned by Griezmann. There is no player capable of organizing and distributing the game like “Grizou” did. The ghost of Mbappé, absent for vague and contradictory reasons, hovered over the match. Maignan, Kounde and Kolo Muani are the satisfactions of this boring match. By playing like this, the Blues will be beaten in Italy on November 17. In the other group match, the Italians beat the Israelis in Italy (4-1). On November 14, France will host Israel at the Stade de France or the Parc des Princes. We do not yet know if the match will be behind closed doors, with the public or with a limited capacity.
