Tadej Pogacar left his mark on the year 2024. This Saturday, he signed a 25th victory at the Tour of Lombardy where he has reigned supreme since 2021. Remco Evenepoel settled for second place ahead of Giulio Ciccone.

The year 2024 for Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) will forever be a vintage year. The new world champion also triumphed at the Giro and the Tour de where he compiled several victories bringing his total to 24 before the Tour of Lombardy this Saturday. In the north of Italy, not surprisingly, the wearer of the rainbow jersey gleaned a 25th in his characteristic style, attacking solo from very far away. At just over 48 kilometers in full climb, he let everyone go.

Still as impressive as ever, he continued to widen the gap with his pursuers, the strongest of whom, Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step), completed his solo effort also at more than three minutes (+3:16). Behind the Belgian on the third step of the podium, Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek) did well (+4:31) by extricating himself from the group of outsiders after having been left behind when the runners began the climb of the Sormano Pass. The Spaniards Enric Mas (Movistar) and Ion Izagirre (Cofidis) then beat Pavel Sivakov (IAE Team Emirates) and Lennert Van Eetvelt (Lotto Dstny) 4:34 behind the winner of this 2024 Tour of Lombardy.

Pogacar joins Coppi in the legend

Tadej Pogacar therefore wins his second Monument of the season after Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Unbeatable on the Tour of Lombardy since 2021, the Slovenian has conquered his fourth victory in a row, equaling in this register the Italian Fausto Coppi (between 1946 and 1949). On the French side, Pavel Sivakov accompanied his leader for a long time before playing his personal card to finally take a nice 6th place. Three places ahead of David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ) relegated to almost five minutes behind “Pogi” (+4:58).
