A round table began Friday evening in as the violence continues, but no agreement has been signed. Discussions are still ongoing in order to ease the tensions that persist in the territory.

Negotiations in progress. While new violence broke out on the island despite the establishment of a curfew and the ban on demonstrations, a new round table began last night in Martinique. However, no agreement has been signed. Residents have been protesting against the high cost of living since September, but looting and arson are increasing. Three people died during the violence and nearly 30 police officers and gendarmes were injured.

Faced with the situation, negotiations are continuing between state services, local authorities, but also the Rally for the Protection of Afro-Caribbean Peoples and Resources (RPPRAC), a collective at the initiative of the movement against life expensive on the island.

The subjects at the heart of the discussions

The question of capping the price difference between Martinique and mainland poses a problem. This gap is 10% to 15% on average, and it even reaches 40% for food. The RPPRAC, the movement which launched this action on September 1, wants legal guarantees for the application of this measure. The other issue being discussed concerns how many products will see their prices drop.

A list of around 4,000 essential items was then drawn up. However, negotiations are continuing with the aim of expanding this list as much as possible. If no agreement was reached last night, the different parties may meet again over the weekend to continue negotiations.
